WASH Innovation Nepal
85%data completenessA model of multiple use system (MUS) and integrated water resource management (IWRM) will be demonstrated during implementation of the project. Around 8.7 KW of hydro electricity will be generated and will provide electricity to 25 households of Jayathala village using available head of 135 m and 11 lps of water from Kachulighad, a perennial stream. The intake and canal of the existing irrigation system will be upgraded for additional discharge of 11 lps, required for hydro plant. Fore bay (for sedimentation), turbine house and transmission line will be constructed. The generated electricity will be distributed to the individual household. 350 watt will be allocated for individual house. Efficient lighting techniques will be used like CFL and LED. In the present context, 50 watt is sufficient for the lighting in a house. Remaining 300 watts (for each household) will be used for cooking and other available electronic appliances. To reduce the deforestation, project will support the electric cooking stoves to each household. The behavioural change on shifting firewood to the electrical appliances for cooking will be monitor closely. Further, the electrical appliance (cooking stoves) will provide opportunity for boiling the drinking water. This Mini hydro will create ample opportunities in the village like small size workshops, small mills etc to flourish, and dryer (agricultural production) and promote end use of the energy generated (especially of day time). This will certainly create better employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.
