Water Supply Project for EQ Affected Population in Dhading, Nuwakot and Gorkha
This project seeks to address water scarcity caused by the April/May 2015 earthquakes in Dhading, Gorkha and Nuwakot districts in Nepal, covering 18 Village Development Committees (VDCs). The project will restore and improve access to sufficient, safe, sustainable and inclusive water supply, strengthen V -WASH CCs and Water User Committees (WUCs), and promote water management to sustain gender responsive WASH facilities and services reaching 44,646 beneficiaries. The intended impact will be achieved primarily through rehabilitation/new construction of a total of 52 community water systems with additional catchment protection measures where appropriate to sustain/increase recharge and reduce water source contamination. Oxfam's work and this project specifically emphasizes Institutional, functional, environmental and financial sustainability by building foundations for strong water supply governance, through enhancing capacity of D/VWASH -CCs and WUCs and placing emphasis upon water resource management and appropriate technology selection. The project includes water quality improvement through hygiene promotion related to household water treatment, storage and handling. Oxfam's work is based upon strong gender and vulnerability/poverty analysis, and thus robustly targets vulnerable and marginalized populations. It will be delivered through partner -led implementation.
