Earthquake Response and Recovery for Kathmandu Valley affected Communities

The four years project implemented in 11 municipalities and three Village Development Committees (VDCs) of three districts in Kathmandu valley aims at contributing to a gender responsive sustainable recovery and reducing risk amongst 150,381 vulnerable affected women (at least 50%) and men. To this aim, the project includes multi sector emergency response, increase ability of communities to sustain gender sensitive Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) services, to sustain livelihoods despite of shocks and to access resources for resilient shelter along with the disaster preparedness interventions in the selected municipalities. It will also contribute to increasing capacity of the target groups/committees to identify their needs and opportunities, influence decisions affecting them, community mobilization, awareness on safe Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) practices, and advocate for the access on the resources and services for recovery and reconstruction by March 2018. The project also aims at influencing government practices of services delivery for improved gender responsive assistance. Safe and equitable access for women and men to support is a key outcome of the project. Also, the project aims disaster preparedness intervention in municipalities for improved emergency preparedness and response capacity at municipal and ward level.
