Strengthening women's political participation and leadership
Phase I (2017) Women's Leadership Programme (WLP) is ending in March 2017 but this proposed project will address the gaps and will function as the bridging phase for an inclusion of more women's political empowerment initiatives. With the advent of the local and provincial elections, the project will build on the unique opportunity of support aspiring women leaders to run for the elections. An approximate number of 450 community women leaders from 10 project Village Development Committees (VDCs) in Surkhet and Makwanpur districts will be supported through various activities to enhance their capacity, skill and knowledge to take part in the elections. Phase II (May 2018 -April 2019): Considering the timeliness and the demand generated from the previous project of Oxfam in Nepal and Oxfam America "Strengthening women's political participation and leadership in 2017 local elections in Nepal (May 2017 - March 2018)", this project aims to strengthen and build the capacity of newly elected women leaders at two levels. Firstly, the project intends to build the capacity of all 37 women legislative members of Province 3 to enhance their leadership skills particularly on public speaking, knowledge on parliamentary processes, planning and budgeting, and advocacy and networking. Secondly, the project aims to build the capacity of selected 28 newly elected Local Women Leaders of Province 3 to develop their knowledge and skills on the concept, structure, policies, processes, planning, implementation and monitoring practices of local government, Transformative Leadership for Women's Rights (TLWRs) and interrelation of province and local government. This project will focus to build the capacity of 37 elected legislative women members of Province 3 and 28 elected women leaders at local level in Oxfam Nepal Project areas in Province 3 Makwanpur. The project will cover the 28 locally elected Women Leaders from Oxfam and WOSCC project areas in Makwanpur districts..
