1. Project: 11751 Socioeconomic empowerment of disadvantaged women and girls in Lalitpur district of Nepal#2. Project area and Country: Lalitpur district, Nepal#3. Project justification: #Women are the largest marginalized group in Nepal in terms of educat ion, asset ownership, political representation and economic participation. Many poor women from deprived communities are not in a position to access loan from banks or other financial institutions or financial service providers due to lack of physical coll ateral. Most of the women still lack legal ownership of their land and citizenship certificate. This project is a continuation of past project Promotion of Womens Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in Lalitpur. It aims to replicate learning to neighbouri ng VDCs, increase cooperatives membership and services to poor and excluded households and to strengthen women-led cooperatives and their networking. Cooperatives still lack adequate knowledge and skills to develop strong linkages with market actors for en terprise development. #4. The main objective and the expected results: #The main objective of the project is to contribute to change the oppressive position of rural women promoting their economic, social, political and cultural rights. The project aims to develop, expand and strengthen women-led local institutions to promote economic, social and cultural rights of women. The targeted women will have an opportunity to earn, save and access credits equal to men. Women will be economically active and empowere d members in their communities through their meaningful stake in decision-making process at households and community level. The project will improve womens business skills so that they will manage their businesses professionally and profitably. The women will be mainly from economically poor and indigenous Tamang communities in 12 village development committees (VDCs) of Lalitpur district.#5. There are several ethnic groups and indigenous people in Nepal, and the country has internationally committed to improve the rights of indigenous people. The tamang language is part of Tibetan Burman languages, and it’s among the five most spoken languag es in Nepal. Implementing linguistic rights has been a huge challenge for Nepal, in which over 100 languages are spoken and in which structural reforms are still ongoing. Even though time has been reserved for education of both Nepalese and a local languag e, English is often taught instead of a local language due to lack of linguistic knowledge and negative attitudes. The project continues directly from a project previously funded by KIOS. The aim is to promote right to education on one’s mother tongue am ongst children speaking Tamang language. Also the continuation of the project seeks to enhance tamang-speaking children’s cultural and educational rights in schools as well as inform about linguistic and cultural rights to the larger public. Childspace F oundation Nepal was founded in 2003 by democracy and human rights activists belonging in tamang linguistic minority and indigenous population. The organization was originally registered as Helping Society Nepal in 2003, but the name was changed into Childs pace Foundation Nepla in 2011. In Nepal there are about 14 million women with Uterine prolapse. Though the expected lifetime has become longer in Nepal the amount of women who get uterine prolapse has not decreased. It has doubled from the year 2008. The problem is in the Nepalese cultu re. It does not protect the the women after they given a birth to a child. Many of the women are expected to work hard soon after the delivery.The aim of this project is to secure a better health for all in Nepal and to prevent Uterine prolapse- by support ing them to appreciate the motherhood and to protect the mothers after the delivery - by counselling in breast-feeding and in child care- by teaching right ways to lift and to work - by guiding to healthy living habits and versatile diet- by encouraging to smoke free lifestyle with no intoxicating agents or fear of AIDSIt is planned that the project will reach all the 75 districts in Nepal in three years. Partners in the districts will be the health and education departments of the districts and also the vo luntary women workers groups which already exist in the districts. According to the plan in each district a three day seminar will be arranged in which all the health teachers from the schools health assistants midwives and the voluntary women workers in the district will be invited. Each year about 2500 health workers can take part in the seminar (100 in each district). All these will get the health education teaching material used during the seminar so that they can use it also in their own work. So the amount of the Nepalese reached by the project will be several time larger.

USAID Inclusive Livelihoods Central activity is being implemented in Kathmandu and Dhading District in central Nepal. This is a three-year fixed amount milestone-based USAID activity, with 12 milestones (summarized below) to be achieved by the end of the project on October 31, 2025. The overall objective is the economic empowerment of people with disabilities in both rural and urban areas of central Nepal, through the mobilization of people with disabilities, livelihoods training and to promoting inclusive employment at the national level. The activitys inclusive livelihoods component aims to provide people with disabilities and their households with the mutual support, experience, skills, and capacity that will bring them greater economic independence and resilience. Ten women-led self-help groups (SHGs) will be established in each of Gokarneshwor (an urban/peri-urban municipality in Kathmandu) and Thakre Rural Municipality in Dhading District, bringing together at least 180 people with disabilities and family careers in each area, who will be supported to set up small enterprises for income generation and saving. Through the activitys training component in Kathmandu valley, 224 young people with disabilities, mostly women, will gain access to vocational training designed to meet both their learning needs and the requirements of employers. By completing their training courses and through mentoring and work-related learning, 224 young adults will have improved prospects for meaningful employment. The activitys advocacy component aims to celebrate and multiply inclusive employment practices, to promote enabling environments and help tackle the legal, regulatory, and cultural barriers that hold people with disabilities back from full participation in economic life.
