F.a: Socio-economic empowerment of disadvantaged girls and women in Latipur SEED

1. Project: 11751 Socioeconomic empowerment of disadvantaged women and girls in Lalitpur district of Nepal#2. Project area and Country: Lalitpur district, Nepal#3. Project justification: #Women are the largest marginalized group in Nepal in terms of educat ion, asset ownership, political representation and economic participation. Many poor women from deprived communities are not in a position to access loan from banks or other financial institutions or financial service providers due to lack of physical coll ateral. Most of the women still lack legal ownership of their land and citizenship certificate. This project is a continuation of past project Promotion of Womens Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in Lalitpur. It aims to replicate learning to neighbouri ng VDCs, increase cooperatives membership and services to poor and excluded households and to strengthen women-led cooperatives and their networking. Cooperatives still lack adequate knowledge and skills to develop strong linkages with market actors for en terprise development. #4. The main objective and the expected results: #The main objective of the project is to contribute to change the oppressive position of rural women promoting their economic, social, political and cultural rights. The project aims to develop, expand and strengthen women-led local institutions to promote economic, social and cultural rights of women. The targeted women will have an opportunity to earn, save and access credits equal to men. Women will be economically active and empowere d members in their communities through their meaningful stake in decision-making process at households and community level. The project will improve womens business skills so that they will manage their businesses professionally and profitably. The women will be mainly from economically poor and indigenous Tamang communities in 12 village development committees (VDCs) of Lalitpur district.#5.
