The Finnish National Agency for Education (EduFi) has supported education sector reform in Nepal since 2005. EduFi's (previously FNBE) support has strengthened Finland's capacity to participate in the monitoring and dialogue related to the comprehensive Sc hool Sector Reform Program (SSDP). EduFi's expertize has contributed to the Finland's excellent visibility and position in Nepal's education sector. In 2017 FinEdu supports the Ministry of Education in Nepal in developing its curriculum teachers' guides an d student counseling. In addition EduFi provides the MFA with expert support relating to the implementation of both Finnish funded interventions in the education sector in Nepal. In the School Sector Development Plan which Finland funds in the years 2016-2 020 EduFi provides expertize in monitoring and reviewing the achievement of the programme. In the TASS technical support program EduFi gives the MFA recommendations relating to the practical roll-out of the program activities on the school level. The total budget of this support is 60.000 eur.

The project aims to respond to three key challenges: the increase in disaster risk in the South Asia region, specifically in Bangladesh and Nepal; the growing numbers of older people who are particularly vulnerable to such disasters; and the current lack of inclusion of this vulnerable group in Community-based Disaster Risk Reduction (CBDRR) initiatives. Lhomi Preschool Program in Nepal is a liaison between Wycliffe Finland (WRK) and its partner Nepal Lhomi Society (NELHOS). The main output will be Mother Tongue Based Early Childhood Education program for the Lhomi.The status of children in Nepal is often very poor especially among indigenous people groups. Lhomi children are often discriminated. There is no preschools available and they must start primary school in Nepali language which is unknown for them. This will have a bad effect to their success in t he school and finally it causes exclusion.Providing pre-school opportunity by their mother tongue this project will increase parity in the education levels of children in the target communities with other children in the country. Children's rights will be increased by providing them pre-school education that equip them and easy their transition to the first grade in Nepali instructed primary school. In doing so children will comprehend and learn faster they will stay in school and ultimately will increase t heir self-development. This will be achieved through a well-founded Mother Tongue Based Early Childhood Education (MTB ECE) -program that will be developed in the target language.The project aims to reduce inequality and vulnerability of indigenous childre n. The rights of girls disabled children and low cast children will be emphasized. Moreover gender equality reduction of inequality disability and climate sustainability will be part of the learning material.NELHOS is responsible of project implementation. As an organization they will gain capacity of mother tongue education as well as they become strong advocate of minority language groups and the rights of marginalized groups in Nepal.Main beneficiaries are the Lhomi language speaking children their paren ts and the local education actors who benefit of increased capacity. Stakeholder Effects: (i) Increased access to finance for SMEs, including women owned SMEs: The project is expected to contribute positively towards access to finance for SMEs in Nepal, which identify access to finance as a major constraint. This global project seeks to contribute to the promotion of fair recruitment initiatives across migration corridors in North Africa, the Middle East and South Asia. The corresponding project strategy is based on a three-pronged approach: 1) establishing fair recruitment corridors to prevent abuses and exploitation of migrant workers; 2) providing migrant workers with access to reliable information and improved services and 3) conducting innovative research and disseminating knowledge on ethical recruitment. These components will be implemented through several pilot initiatives at the global and country level. Target countries for pilot projects proposed in this concept note include Tunisia, Jordan, Nepal and the Philippines. The strategy will apply a multi-stakeholder approach in conjunction with governments, trade unions, employers’ organisations and the media. From Protocol to Practice: A Bridge to Global Action on Forced Labor (The Bridge project) The U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL), Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB), has provided funding to the International Labour Organization (ILO) for a project to support global and national efforts aimed at combating forced labor under the 2014 ILO Protocol and Recommendation on Forced Labor. The project will: (1) promote the ratification and implementation of the Protocol and implementation of the Recommendation by countries by providing technical assistance to governments and other key stakeholders, (2) support interventions at the global and country level to advance the campaign to eradicate forced labor, including addressing gaps in legislation, awareness raising campaigns, supply chain monitoring, law enforcement training, best practices on compensation and other remedies, research studies and surveys, and (3) develop and implement direct action measures to prevent forced labor, to protect victims, and to provide them with access to remediation, including compensation for material and physical harm.
