Shiraka aims to bring about positive change in the MENA region, meaning:• societies that accept cultural and religious differences;• states that respect the rule of law and protect individuals, minorities and human rights;• an economy which fosters prosperity and employment.The broader programme consists of the following two components:• Shiraka Training Programme o The Shiraka Training Programme (STP) is an instrument for implementation of bilateral relations between the Netherlands and eligible countries at government level. o The objective is to train senior public and semi-public officials on matters relevant to furthering public services in the MENA region. o An important aim is to create networks, by bringing the participants together in the Netherlands. o The programme also aims to increase and improve bilateral relations between Dutch line ministries and their colleagues in their respective countries. o Some training programmes also invite people working for semi-public organisations.• Government to government (G2G) cooperation o G2G is an instrument to stimulate structural cooperation between governments in order to offer support in solving issues of reciprocal concern. o Where relevant, the Dutch business community is actively involved.

This proposal deals with the study of novel 2D materials, which are considered to be highly potential candidates for future nanoelectronics.In this project, we will carry out detailed theoretical investigations of several important properties of graphene and other 2D materials (silicene, germanene, boron nitride) by ab initio density functional theory. The theoretical studies will be intimately connected to in-house experiments carried out in Uppsala from the point of view of spectroscopy and defect induced changes in the structures and transport properties. In our constellation, the participation of researchers of various expertise in ab initio theory, molecular dynamics, magnetism and spectroscopy will be extremely valuable in the understanding of the properties of these 2D materials. The present proposal is very significant to diversify the scope of scientific research and training of young researchers by establishing collaboration with the research group in Tribhuvan University in Nepal. The project will be carried out by means of collaborative visits, training of young students by arranging schools and workshops, joint scientific publications and organization of international conferences in both countries.

The present project focuses on understanding the processes that govern the variability of the South Asian Monsoon over various time-scales from days to decades. We have chosen to focus primarily on the monsoon impacts in Bhutan, with a planned extension of the study area to neighbouring Nepal: this region is mainly affected by the Indian Monsoon subsystem, but it is likely to be influenced by the South-East Monsoon subsystem as experienced e.g. in Thailand. We emphasise in particular the use of stable water isotopes (SWI) to better understand and constrain processes in the atmospheric water cycle. The suggested approach combines ground- based (precipitation sampling, shallow ice-cores) and remote-sensed (tropospheric vapour) ob- servations with global and regional climate models with embedded SWI diagnostics. The periods of interest cover present-day, recent (1981-2010) and future (2021-2050) Mon- soon variability. Beyond the inherent scientific challenges in improving our understanding of the Asian Monsoon, the present project is highly relevant for supporting sustainable develop- ment policies in the partner countries. Analysing the regional SWI signature will also contribute to a refined interpretation of isotopic climate archives in Southern and Eastern Asia.

Taxus baccata L. subsp. wallichiana (Zucc.) Pilger, commonly called as Himalayan yew and locally ?Lauth Sallo? is one of the notable species of Nepal. Various parts of this species are used for food, medicine, fuel and other domestic purposes. Himalayan yew, known for the treatment of ovarian and breast cancer has been overexploited and smuggled heavily from eastern Nepal. Ethanol extract of its leaves is heavily exported for manufacturing cancer curing chemical called taxol. The present application is to identify Himalayan yew genotypes with enhanced taxol production for their exploitation through plant cell culture. To achieve this gold we will, first, study the genetic diversity within and across populations of Himalayan yew using SSR markers to identify genetically related groups (genetic structure) across Nepal, second apply plant cell culture to identify yew genotypes with enhanced taxol and baccatin III production within each genetic group and third, establishment of a germplasm bank in Nepal for future evaluation of taxol production and for diversity conservation purposes.

The objective of this project is to contribute to the efforts of the Government of Nepal to manage cross-border mobility and apply evidence-based policy to better protect vulnerable migrants, including victims of trafficking. To achieve the objective, the project will carry out a mapping of migration flows at key border points with India and publish an analysis of the data with a specific focus on migrant vulnerabilities. The project will also review current policies to address cross-border migration and the measures and actions currently implemented on national, provincial and local levels in regard to irregular migration, assess their compatibility with international standards and best practices, and map out cross border migration trends. Additionally, the project will roll out IOM's Reintegration Handbook, train relevant stakeholders including migrant networks/groups and NGOs at local levels to provide sustainable reintegration services to vulnerable migrants.

Building on decades of USAIDs work procuring health commodities and strengthening supply chains, the Global Health Supply Chain-Procurement and Supply Management project is working to transform global and national supply chains for health commodities. The project integrates two former USAID programs into one efficient supply chain that serves many of the worlds most vulnerable and difficult-to-reach communities. The project is designed to meet todays critical global health challenges eliminating HIV and AIDS, providing universal malaria coverage, and helping women meet their family planning and reproductive health needs. Civil society organizations (CSOs) - including human rights and women's groups, trade unions, faith-based organizations, and other advocacy groups - have been the driving force behind efforts to promote democracy. They have also been the main bulwarks against backsliding, which threatens participatory democracy, increases corruption, daunts economic growth, and opens opportunities for anti-American extremist ideologies. Africa Regional aims to strengthen the capabilities of indigenous African CSOs to become effective, accountable, and sustainable in their efforts to promote reforms. The CSO Sustainability Index (CSOSI) for Africa provides a set of clear metrics for CSO capacity and sustainability for use by Missions, Bureaus, and USAID's development partners. Africa Regional will contribute funding to this multi-year research effort managed by DCHA/DRG such that coverage continues for the Indexes.
