Poor women from deprived communities are not in a position to access loan from banks or other financial institutions or financial service providers due to lack of physical collateral. The poor, indigenous women and girls are exploited from various forms of discrimination. Therefore there is a comprehensive need to build the capacity of deprived poor women to increase their access to financial capital with low interest rate. The local government bodies have not fully owned and realised the importance of wome n’s participation in planning process and providing justifiable share of resources to the women in their location. Strengthening cooperatives and their linkages with local bodies, including Ward Citizen Forum and Citizen Awareness Centre (CAC) are requir ed to increase women’s access to resources and services. Most of the women still lack legal ownership of their land. Cooperatives still lack adequate knowledge and skills to develop strong linkages with market actors for enterprise development. Lack of v ocational skill training and micro entrepreneurship skills among women and out of school youth girls, denial of women to property rights, gender based discrimination and women’s right violation justify the need to implement this project in Lalitpur distr ict of Nepal. The overall objective of the project is to improve women’s economic and socio-cultural status. The specific objective is to develop and strengthen women-led local institutions for promoting economic, social and cultural rights of poor and m arginalised women communities in Lalitpur. The project reduces child poverty and the use of child labor. It increases the number of children regularly attending school and improves child well-being in Sindhupalchowk and Kavre Districts. Children below 18 years of age constitute 42 % of the total po pulation of Nepal and more than a third of Nepalese children live below the national poverty line. Many of them suffer from severe malnutrition. Around 10 % of children do not have access to schooling and about 40 % of children between 5-17 years of age ar e working. The project improves access to social protection schemes by children and poor households. As a result of this project, children’s nutritional status improves and an increasing number of them attend school. The beneficiaries of this project are the most vulnerable children and their families. The project is implemented by Save the Children Nepal, Tuki Sangh Sunkoshi (Sindhupalchowk) and Nangshal Association Nepal (Kavre).

The Government of Finland has contributed to development in the education sector since 1999 and is currently one of the development partners supporting the Nepali Government with financing and implementation of the School Sector Reform Plan (SSRP). Finland ?s contribution to the SSRP is ? 16 million during 2010 to 2015. Out of this ? 11.5 million has been allocated to finance the integration of Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) into primary and secondary education. Additional to that there is an allocation of ? 1.6 million for development and piloting TEVT soft skills in school education.The overall objective is to contribute to enhancing quality and relevance of general education by introducing TEVT soft skills (vocationally oriented skills) in school system in order to improve employability of students and to meet the demands of labor market. The objective has been discussed with all major stakeholders and has been found to be relevant. No changes are required to the overall objective. The purpo se of the Technical Assistance is to support the Ministry of Education in implementing the TEVT (Soft Skills) component of the SSRP that is operationalized in Annual Strategic Implementation Plans (ASIP) of each year.

Interpedia ry and Loo Niva Child Concern have previously partnered in Far West Nepal with projects in 2012-2014 and 2015-2017. The Concern for Education -projects have supported children?s right to access to free quality education in rural Far-West Dadeldh ura area. Dadeldhura is one of the less developed areas in Nepal where vulnerable groups such as girls ethnic minorities and Dalits (the lower caste) still face discrimination and have lower accessibility to education. The projects have successfully manage d to improve the status of basic education by training and sensitizing children parents teacher and local authorities for their role in promoting the Right to Education; by establishing children?s groups for strengthening children?s active participation in society; supporting local Concern for Education- and Education Watch Groups in supervising and promoting quality education and using local and social medium for raising awareness about education and good educational practices. The projects have aimed at m aking schools as No Politics Zones supporting peaceceful education fulfillment of child rights and avoiding misuse of schools as an instrument of political targets and conflicts.For ensuring that the good practices that have been developed and introduced d uring the previous phase can be spread the next phase of the project will focus even more on promoting basic and primary level education in Dadeldhura area with effective engagement of local actors of civil society. After the new constitution in September 2015 NGOs and civil society have a significant opportunity to strengthen their role in policy-making as well as to advance the democratization process in Nepal. Due to that training and empowering local communities will be important parts of promoting educ ation during forthcoming years. Trained local communities will also ensure sustainable redistribution of roles and responsibilities of improving the right to education as well as new ways to finance education promotion activities after the inputs from Loo Niva. The project balances direct project interventions and advocacy work with a clear geographicacal focus in the remote Far West area.

This project aims to help 10,000 women and men with disabilities to find sustainable employment and increase their household incomes. The project seeks to identify and address the key causes of chronic unemployment, underemployment, and poverty of women and men with disabilities in Dhaka, Bangladesh; Hyderabad, India; and Kathmandu, Nepal. It focuses on three sectors that employ a proportionally large number of people with disabilities: cottage or home-based industries, the hospitality sector, and food processing. It supports 300 employers in offering work placements for people with disabilities, thereby providing positive models for other employers in the target countries.

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) supports small projects proposed and implemented by local organizations in Bhutan, India and Nepal. The Nepal earthquake on April 25, 2015 and the subsequent major aftershock on May 12, 2015 caused severe devastation to homes, livelihoods, and private and public properties, including considerable damage to the sanitation infrastructure. The Government of Nepal and many agencies addressed immediate needs but agriculture is still severely affected, pushing the sector into further crisis resulting in low production and abandoning of farms. Through the provision of livelihoods, this project aims to improve the quality of life of the earthquake-affected communities, particularly the most vulnerable populations in the Sindhupalchowk, Kavrepalanchwok and Lalitpur districts. The objectives of the initiative are to build capacities and close existing gaps on both the demand and supply sides in different spheres of economic activities. Project activities include: (1) building capacity and promoting environment friendly and gender sensitive agriculture and dairy production techniques; (2) increasing the employability of working age adults through better awareness of skills that are in demand and training them within skills development institutions; and (3) facilitating the development of micro, small and medium enterprises led by vulnerable women groups targeting economic opportunities in agriculture, livestock, poultry and other non-farm sectors.

This project aims to improve the well-being and resilience of communities living in earthquake-affected areas of Sindhupalchok, Nepal, by meeting their needs for potable water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services and practices. Supporting increased access to WASH services in Sindhupalchok will not only help the district recover from damage, but also contribute to reaching a level of WASH development that is improved from pre-earthquake levels. Improving access to WASH services in Sindhupalchok will also provide an opportunity to make them more equitable and inclusive, and to ensure that they are resistant to future natural disasters. Project activities include: (1) increasing the equitable access of households and institutions (schools and health posts) to WASH services by rehabilitating and/or constructing appropriate infrastructure; (2) increasing the capacity of individuals and organizations in the community to operate and maintain the infrastructure and to promote the use of good hygiene practices; (3) increasing resilience to future shocks through "build back better", and extending coverage to a greater number of beneficiaries. The project directly benefits 15,290 men, women (51%) and children in Sindhupalchowk, one of the districts most severely affected by the earthquakes. Oxfam Canada is working with Gramin Mahila Sirjansil Pariwar (GMSP), Mahila Atma Nirbharta Kendra (MANK), and Janahit Gramin Sewa Samiti (JGSS) to implement this project.

The earthquakes resulted in over 8,700 deaths and 22,000 injuries, 2.8 million displaced and 3.5 million in need of food assistance. In response to the earthquake, Canada established the Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund that committed the Government of Canada to matching eligible private donations to Canadian organizations. While the Government of Nepal and many agencies addressed immediate needs, one year later, there are still critical water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) gaps. Through the provision of WASH services, this project, funded by the Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund, aims to improve the quality of life of the earthquake-affected communities, particularly the most vulnerable populations in the Dhading and Sindhupalchowk districts. The objectives of the initiative are to increase access to potable water, increase use of improved sanitation services and improve the adoption of hygiene practices. Project activities include: (1) providing increased and more equal access to safe and sustainable drinking water and improved sanitation services in communities and institutions; (2) enhancing the capacity of water user committees to construct, operate and maintain drinking water systems; (3) helping district-level stakeholders respond more effectively and appropriately to the different potable water supply, sanitation and hygiene needs of various target groups; (4) building the capacity of communities, schools and health posts to maintain total sanitation; (5) providing increased and more equal access to improved hygiene facilities to individuals and institutions; and (6) improving local knowledge and attitudes about safe hygiene.

The project aims to improve the economic sustainability and resilience of people affected by the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25, 2015. The earthquake, followed by a series of large aftershocks, resulted in over 8,700 deaths and 22,000 injuries, 2.8 million people displaced and 3.5 million in need of food assistance, including over 530,000 people who experience acute food insecurity (no access to safe, sufficient and nutritious food). Households involved in farming, small business and wage labour have difficulties recovering their livelihoods, due to a lack of inputs, skilled workforce (temporary migration of household members), and the demands of caring for the elderly and people with disabilities. The project is providing households with agricultural inputs (seeds, fertilizer, livestock and improved technologies); business and financial support for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises; and labour market skills training. Project activities include: (1) rehabilitating small-scale market facilities that were damaged by the earthquake; (2) linking up communities with other service providers on large scale rehabilitation needs to stimulate production and local markets; and (3) providing gender-responsive disaster risk reduction training and organizing awareness-raising in communities (through radio, TV, and community information sharing) to increase the proportion of communities with disaster risk management plans.
