The project will upgrade rescue team to capture and rescue or radio collar stray tigers and other carnivores as necessary, develop an action selection framework for human-carnivore conflict in CNP, establish web based human-wildlife conflict database with graphics and visual maps, make buffer zone communities more responsible for human-tiger conflict management through capacity building and awareness, pilot preventive measures to minimize loss from tigers, generate scientific information about stray tigers living in the fringe areas to understand and predict the behavior of these animals, and provide suppor to the families of wildlife conflict victims.

The purpose of this project is to, (1) host the Regional tiger, Asian rhino and elephant veterinary workshop in Chitwan National Park, Nepal, in 2017-2018, and, (2) support 25 veterinarians to travel to and participate in this veterinary workshop in order to build their individual capacity and enhance their wildlife veterinary expertise to more effectively assist conservation efforts in Asia. Wildlife health needs will be addressed from an ecosystem perspective by discussing topics such as disease spillover from humans and/or livestock to wildlife, emerging diseases and/or disease prevalence, as well as reducing stressors in the environment. Wildlife health is an important priority for wildlife conservation in the tiger, Asian rhino and elephant range countries. These workshops result in expanding the network of knowledge and expertise locally and regionally, and further strengthen the alliances, professional relationships, and partnerships urgently needed to address emerging disease threats in the range countries.

Bridging the Gaps works with a Theory of Change approach. A Theory of Change is a description of a list of events that is expected to lead to a particular desired outcome. 3.1 Quantitative Data Collection The quantitative data collection process will be designed to ensure statistical rigor, data reliability, and adherence to IFPRI’s research protocols. The steps outlined below describe the sequential methodological approach that IIDS will adopt: Sampling and Listing IIDS will conduct a rapid household listing exercise in the study villages of Lumbini Province to establish a comprehensive sampling frame. The listing will identify eligible treatment households (current digital and AI-enabled advisory service users) and control households (non-users) to facilitate a robust counterfactual analysis. GeoKrishi and AgTech B2B platforms will provide user lists, while non-user households will be identified through field-based household enumeration in coordination with local cooperatives and government institutions at local level. Randomization and stratified sampling procedures will be applied following IFPRI’s design to ensure representativeness across districts, ecological zones, and farmer categories. Detailed records of household identifiers, GPS coordinates, and contact information will be securely maintained.

This 2 year project aims to support the earthquake affected households in 5 VDCs in Sindupalchowk district of Nepal. The 5 VDCs include Bhimtar, Shipapokhare, Bandegaun, Nawalpur and Bhotshipa. The project will target 1350 families for the overall project intervention and out of these families, 780 most vulnerable households will be identified. They will work in Self-Help Groups (SHGs) for Income Generating Activities (IGAs) through entrepreneurship support. The project will apply integrated approach to recover the affected people's livelihoods. The major activities of the project involve rehabilitation of the drinking water supplies, irrigation systems, construction of domestic animal sheds, training farmers on improved practices in crop cultivation, fish farming and livestock management. The interventions will include both on-farm agriculture-based IGAs and off-farm IGAs such as small business entrepreneurship development. The project also plans to introduce innovative techniques in agriculture like tunnel gardening and organic agriculture farming. Agriculture is one of major components of the project which will undertake tasks such as strengthening farmers’ field school management, distributing quality seed, transferring vermi-compost and crop and vegetable intensification technologies, exploring and facilitating marketing of organic products to home-stays and tourist hub or other market places, promoting plantation of economically profitable plants, and encouraging intercropping practices. The project also include skills enhancement and income generating activities and encouraging women's micro-credit groups to link to local cooperatives is also part of the project activities. Households will also be encouraged through hygiene promotion activities to learn and apply improve hygiene practices in water and sanitation and in the use of animal sheds to help improve communities health.

Maithili Empowerment Programme. The programme seeks to increase a local partner’s capacity to respond to the needs of the Maithili minority in Southern Nepal. The 2.5 million Maithili of Southern Nepal make up the country’s largest ethnic minority. For merly known for their rich culture and traditions, the Maithili now live in poverty and have almost lost their unique identity. To address the needs of the Maithili, Fida partners with a local NGO called Relative Nepal, which belongs to the Assemblies of G od Nepal (AGN) church. The programme offers the partner hands-on training in community development work. The main approach used is that of Community Health Education. The work carried out among the Maithili communities includes e.g. literacy training, basi c education and cultural revitalization activities. Through the trainings and practical development work conducted during the programme, the partner’s capacities build up and, at the same time, the needs of the Maithili communities are addressed. Already one school has been established and children’s literacy classes started. These together will contribute towards the improvement of the quality of life in the Maithili communities.
