USAID Inclusive Livelihoods Central activity is being implemented in Kathmandu and Dhading District in central Nepal. This is a three-year fixed amount milestone-based USAID activity, with 12 milestones (summarized below) to be achieved by the end of the project on October 31, 2025. The overall objective is the economic empowerment of people with disabilities in both rural and urban areas of central Nepal, through the mobilization of people with disabilities, livelihoods training and to promoting inclusive employment at the national level. The activitys inclusive livelihoods component aims to provide people with disabilities and their households with the mutual support, experience, skills, and capacity that will bring them greater economic independence and resilience. Ten women-led self-help groups (SHGs) will be established in each of Gokarneshwor (an urban/peri-urban municipality in Kathmandu) and Thakre Rural Municipality in Dhading District, bringing together at least 180 people with disabilities and family careers in each area, who will be supported to set up small enterprises for income generation and saving. Through the activitys training component in Kathmandu valley, 224 young people with disabilities, mostly women, will gain access to vocational training designed to meet both their learning needs and the requirements of employers. By completing their training courses and through mentoring and work-related learning, 224 young adults will have improved prospects for meaningful employment. The activitys advocacy component aims to celebrate and multiply inclusive employment practices, to promote enabling environments and help tackle the legal, regulatory, and cultural barriers that hold people with disabilities back from full participation in economic life. (Nepal): USAID's Integrated Pest Management (IPM) activity will invest FY 2021 resources to increase farmers' adoption of IPM for vegetables, maize, rice, and lentils by promoting the use of an integrated package of technologies and practices to minimize the use of chemical pesticides. Endorsed by USAID and the Government of Nepal, IPM minimizes the use of chemical pesticides while effectively controlling pests and diseases to benefit farmers, consumers, and the environment. Through training and targeted technical assistance, it will build public and private sector stakeholders' capacities for science-based pest management and pesticide selection processes to reduce pests, including Fall Armyworm, pesticide risk, and conduct pesticide safety training of trainers. Using FY 2021 funds, this activity will partner with agro-dealers to conduct field trials and demonstrations of IPM technologies side-by-side with conventionally treated crops. It will closely collaborate with other Feed the Future activities to share methods and practices that have proven successful in managing pests using integrated methods. The activity will expand the scale of its interventions to improve technologies and practices with women and marginalized groups, and train and empower women scientists and plant health professionals. .Virginia Tech University was selected due its technical capacity to implement this intervention in partnership with its Nepal-based sub-awardees and with public and private sector stakeholders. Assist special populations which may be vulnerable or at-risk on a temporary or chronic basis whose needs are not addressed under emergency humanitarian assistance or other programs. (Nepal): The Strengthening Systems for Better Health (SSBH) activity improves access to sustainable, quality, equitable health services.
