VILLAGE ALIVE 5' YEAR 1
The overall goal of the project is to improve the health and well-being of five Dailit communities in Madhesh Province, Nepal, working towards Zero Leprosy. Despite SDG adoption and legislation preventing caste distinctions, the Dailits remain one of the most most socially and economically marginalised groups in Nepal. Around 85% of the Dalit people are poorly paid agricultural or other manual workers and many suffer from poverty-imduced hunger. Dailit communites present with poorer development indicators than the wider Nepali society. Guided by Lalgadh Leprosy Hospital and leprosy-affected self-help group members, the project seeks to help overcome extreme poverty and stigmatisation throuh renewed personal and community mindsets; learning in self-help groups: economic, environmental and educational improvements through income generation, clean water, sanitation, hygiene, maternal and child health and school attendance
