Oxfam in Nepal

The proposed project "Building Community Resilience to Climate Risks and Vulnerabilities (BCRC)", aims at strengthening adaptive capacities of communities and improve climate resilience in Chandrapur and Gujara municipalities, Rautahat District, Madhesh Province, Nepal. The project is planned for 3 years from March 15, 2025 to March 31, 2028 with the grant period covering one year, March 15, 2025, to March 31, 2026. The project focuses to strengthen and enhance climate resilience in communities by promoting livelihood diversification, community -led adaptation planning and inclusive governance, including some policy works at local level. We would like to support individual families, communities and local stakeholders to build their capacities on resilience and adaptation to climate change.

The Women's Rights Fund (WRF) provides women's rights organisations with multi -year funding to invest in their own priorities. This gives them time to breathe, removing pressures to allow them to plan, implement and deliver.

Empowering Her: Advancing Women's Economic and Political Leadership for Climate Resilient Communities is one of the strategic and integrated projects of Oxfam that builds on two thematic areas (i) Gender justice, (ii) Resilience and climate (economic) justice of Oxfam in Nepal (OIN). The objective of the project is to increase economic resilience of women through participation in climate resilient and sustainable economic activity and (ii) Strengthen women social capacity (leadership and reduce Gender Based Violence (GBV) in climate affected area.

Immediate response and long term rehabilitation and development of Earthquake (EQ) affected communities of Jajarkot and adjoining districts. The immediate response will be provided on Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Shelter and Emergency Food Security and Vulnerable Livelihood (EFSVL) with gender and protection as cross -cutting issues. The long -term focus will be on integrated settlement/village development for affected communities.

This project will support informal workers including domestic workers and unpaid care workers in collectively claiming their rights and protection. Also, this project will also support in shifting narratives on defining and valuing women's work.

The world is facing multiple, connected, and worsening crises. Unjust and unsustainable food systems are failing to deliver food and nutrition security, living incomes and decent working conditions for increasing numbers of people. Extractive and unsustainable use and governance of land and other natural resources are contributing to pollution, biodiversity loss, ecological breakdown, and climate change – threatening the survival of all of humanity. The impacts of these crises are profoundly unequal – rural women and communities in many countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America are disproportionately affected. Cultivating Change is a strategic program of work on food, land and natural resources, and climate. In this program we work with the rural women and communities most affected by worsening food insecurity, exploitation of natural resources and the climate crisis to challenge and transform the systems of inequality and rights abuses that are causing hunger, poverty and climate and ecological breakdown. This overarching programmatic framework (also described in this document as an umbrella program framework) has been developed to build on Oxfam's decades -long experience of working with rural communities and allies from local to global levels to fight the food, land, biodiversity and climate crises, including the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) -financed Seeds - Oxfam food Justice Campaign (GROW) program (2013 -2023). The framework has been co -created through consultation with Oxfam and partner colleagues from multiple countries, representing a diverse range of technical perspectives and experience on the ground.
