This project aims to provide innovative solutions to the water, health and food security issues in the high altitude areas of Humla District through the provision of a sustainable supply of clean safe water and to provide water closer to settlements, provide cleaner water to reduce the likelihood of water-borne diseases or illness, as well as to provide a source of water for agricultural and livestock use.

- Fire
On 09 April, 2015, a sudden fire started from a house leaving 160 houses of a village in Rampura Malhaniya-5, Saptari in ashes. According to District Administration Office, properties worth Rs. 20 million were destroyed and 65 families were rendered homeless in the incident. The houses had thatched roofs and timber and bamboo walls hence the fire quickly spread throughout the village. JOA granted Habitat for Humanity £30,000 for the provision of emergency shelter.

On 25th April 2015 a devastating earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale occurred in Nepal, 48 miles from the capital of Kathmandu following which there were at least 30 aftershocks. Thousands were injured and thousands died. JOA granted Oxfam £30,000 for the provision of emergency food, access to clean safe water and hygiene kits, Save the Children £30,000 for the provision of shelter support, rope and essential household items, British Red Cross £30,000 for thousands of tarpaulins, oral rehydration salts, soap, water purification tablets and first aid. JOA also gave £50,000 to the Bailiff’s Disaster Appeal matching public fundraising in Jersey for the provision of a longer term sustainable project.

The first team of volunteers departed Jersey for Nepal to build a 10+2 School, equivalent to a Sixth Form School, with the capacity for 100 co-educational students inclusive of four classrooms, a library/computer facility and a toilet block, in the Seti Khola Valley, Western Nepal.

The last project to be undertaken in 2012 was to Nepal where the objective of this project was to build a new home for about 80 to 100 children (boys and girls), a primary school and a small clinic in Mahottari, Central Region, Janakpur Zone, Dhanusa District, Nepal.

Approximately 3,000 huts, cattle sheds and concrete houses were affected following an accidental fire in Aurahi Village in the Sihara district of Nepal. In turn this led to 1000 families being displaced. JOAC awarded Habitat for Humanity GBP 30,000 for the provision of emergency shelter kits.

- Water and sanitation in schools
Through the installation of water and sanitation systems in 15 primary schools, covering five communities, funding will improve access to water and sanitation in addition to providing water for agriculture to provide opportunity for income generation.
