Quality Education in Solukhumbu, Nepal 2025-2030 (QEPS 3)
Working with Himalayan Trust New Zealand to strengthen local education systems in the Everest region of Nepal, by providing teacher training, scholarships, improved school facilities and better coordination with local education authorities. Work is focussed in Solukhumbu District and delivered in partnership with the local Nepali organisation - Himalayan Trust Nepal. An external evaluation will be conducted as part of the programme monitoring.

Nuts and Fruits in Hilly Areas Project
The project will increase agricultural income of approximately 40,000 farm households in 100 municipalities in hilly areas of five provinces: Province 1, Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpashchim. This will be mainly achieved through the development of approximately 10,000 hectares (ha) of climate resilient fruit and nut orchards providing value-addition to the nuts and fruits produced by at least 30,000 farm households. The project will also improve the institutional capacity for managing the nursery and horticulture sector. For about 10,000 smallholder households, who are not capable of investing in fruit and nut orchard development in the project provinces, the project will assist them to improve their vegetable and other nutritious crop production and its marketing.

Green Resilient Agricultural-Centered Private Sector Economic Development (GRAPE 2)
<p><strong>Overall Objective</strong> is to advance sustainable climate-resilient private sector development in the agriculture sector in Nepal.</p><p class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Specific Objective 1</strong> (outcome 1) of the Action is to expand profitable, innovative, sustainable and equitable climate-resilient agricultural value chains that support youth and women¿s economic empowerment and equality.</p><p><strong>Specific Objective 2</strong> (outcome 2) of the Action is to support local governments in their commitments and practices for climate-resilient, nature-positive economic development in Nepal, with a focus on Karnali, Sudurpaschim and Koshi provinces.</p><p class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Output 1 on Business Development Services:</strong> Women and youth-led enterprises have access to inclusive and high-quality business development services</p><p class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Output 2 on Value Chain Development and Market Access</strong>: Climate-resilient value chains, market linkages and market access are developed through partnerships that empower women and youth economically</p><p class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Output 3 on Economic Governance</strong>: Municipal and provincial governments are strengthened to promote climate-resilient and inclusive economic development.</p><p class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Output 4 on Changing Mindsets</strong>: Key stakeholders in the Nepali entrepreneurial ecosystem respect and value women¿s contribution to economic development</p><p class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Output 5 on Scaling</strong>: Good practices, products and services that support gender-transformative and climate-resilient market development are upscaled.</p>

Mobilization of the community for high-quality education in Solukhumbu district
In two rural communities in the Himalayas, local communities and governments are being supported in establishing a high-quality, inclusive and child-friendly education system. Through capacity building and mobilisation of key stakeholders, such as teachers, adolescents, parents and local authorities, sustainable structures are being developed for the provision of resources and the monitoring of educational quality.

Multi Hazard Risk Assessment and design of MHEWS in Nepal (Koshi Province)
The project focuses on understanding and managing multi hazard risks in mountain regions through integrated risk assessment, MHEWS’s, and emergency preparedness planning. WP1 centers on hazard and risk assessment. WP2 is dedicated to the development of a comprehensive multihazard early warning system approach. WP3 focuses on emergency preparedness planning and is coordinated by University of Geneva (Swiss lead) and Practical Action Consulting, Nepal (local lead).

Context: A major challenge for the Nepalese economy, which is largely based on agriculture, is the lack of jobs for young people and the fact that many men are leaving the country to find work. The women who remain have a heavy workload and account for a large proportion of agricultural workers. However, they face multiple forms of discrimination and have limited access to better paid jobs in the agricultural sector. At the same time, the effects of climate change pose a risk to income from agriculture. Objective: Economic development in Nepal is more gender equitable and more climate resilient. Approach: The project works with Nepalese and international partners such as local community and district administrations to improve the conditions for gender-equitable and climate-resilient economic development. The aim is to support the establishment of companies, the further development and marketing of products, and the economic participation of women. There are three mains fields of activity: 1. Expanding access to services such as new processing strategies and digital services for entrepreneurs to support the development of existing or newly established companies, particularly women-led companies. 2. Promoting partnerships with the private sector through, for example, community projects with trading companies in order to provide economic support for women in particular. 3. Expanding gender-equitable and climate-resilient economic development through local government, for example through the implementation of action plans for local economic development with a focus on gender-equitable and climate-resilient business promotion. The project works primarily in the provinces of Karnali and Sudurpaschim. It is designed to have an impact in other regions of Nepal, such as Lumbini, Koshi and Kathmandu, and internationally in the Nepalese export sector, for example.
