Nepal Glacial Flooding- August 2026
· A major flash flood struck northern Nepal on 26 August 2026 following a sudden surge in the Bhotekoshi/Trishuli river system near the China-Nepal border. The districts of Rasuwa and Nuwakot experienced the most severe impacts, while downstream effects extended into Dhading, Chitwan, Gorkha and Tanahun districts. Government authorities have declared affected municipalities disaster crisis-affected areas for a three-month period. Access remains severely constrained due to extensive damage to roads, bridges, power infrastructure and telecommunications networks, with helicopters currently serving as the primary means of reaching isolated communities. Formal assessments remain ongoing and the full scale of the disaster is not yet known. The disaster has also disrupted the Nepal-China trade corridor, affecting customs facilities, markets, hydropower infrastructure and transport links. The Rasuwa border crossing remains closed. Impact and Humanitarian Concerns The humanitarian consequences are significant and continue to evolve as access improves. Preliminary satellite analysis suggests that more than 93,000 people (approximately 18,000 households) may have been affected, although this figure remains unconfirmed. Initial field estimates indicated approximately 10,000 directly affected people in the most severely impacted areas. Reports from partners and authorities indicate: Approximately 165-177 fatalities identified, with figures continuing to change as recovery efforts progress Between 73 and 130 injured people reported, including several patients receiving intensive care treatment in Kathmandu More than 800 people reported missing, unaccounted for, or unreachable Entire villages, market areas and businesses destroyed or severely damaged Houses swept away and families displaced to temporary gathering areas and camps Bodies recovered far downstream from the original impact zone Thousands of people seeking information regarding missing relatives and family members

Safe Drinking Water facility in Manigaun Gumda
Due to the great Earthquake of 2015, many basic infrastructures were destroyed. In ManniGaun Gumda, we are planning to provide clean drinking water facility were there is a acute shortage of water . Village population will access clean water readily, understand and practice good hygiene and maintain their health in long term. We will also be conducting awareness campaign in 12 VDCs of Gorkha regarding girls and women trafficking.

High End Cashmere Goat and Wool Project in Gorkha, Nepal
Nepal is one of poorest countries in the world and suffered tremendously from the devastating earthquake in 2015. Once famous for its cashmere products, Nepal seized to produce cashmere wool due to the indigenous goats being kept for meat production to feed local communities and foreign goats not being suitable for Nepal’s geographical circumstances. Furthermore, political tension and competition in the region are rising, causing Nepalese cashmere garment production to decrease, skills being lost and livelihoods of many families being threatened. Dutch company So Good to Wear, that works with famous Dutch fashion brands such as Wendela van Dijk and Margreet Olsthoorn, has the ambition to bring back Cashmere goat keeping and Cashmere wool production to Nepal by establishing a fully sustainable and fair ‘from goat to garment’ wool production chain that meets high market segment demand. In order to validate the market and to prepare for future investments, Technical Assistance (DGGF-TA) provides support to set up a local breeding program and spinning program for high quality cashmere wool production, as well as a guarantee for its first shipment of garments to Europe. By developing this new breed that is suitable for Nepalese climate and by training families and communities to become goat herders and to set-up their own small scale franchised goat farms entire communities will be able to build a sustainable incomes. Through its unique cooperative ‘fair chain’ model, profits and goats will be shared equally amongst all people within the entire chain, including the farmers and spinners. The project already supports 18 direct jobs and 22 indirect jobs and provided training to 20 people. The first 200 baby goats have been born early 2020 and the first shipment of garments is expected early 2020. Further investments in a local production facility of Cashmere wool products and expansion of the number of goat farms are planned. In 2022, the first goats will be shared amongst farming families, with the potential to develop a growing number of farms per year. Each farm will create 6 to 7 jobs and support 3 to 4 families. The program has the potential to build more than 230 farms support 750-1,000 families by 2030.

The project will provide the Technical Assistance (TA) to implement the Asian Development Bank (ADB) financed Earthquake Emergency Assistance Project in rebuilding 450 kms of damaged roads in 12 districts[1] of Nepal and rehabilitate 200 kms of trails in two[2] districts. Supporting frontline health worker in remote Nepal
PHASE Nepal works in remote and isolated areas of Nepal supporting free primary health care, livelihood and education improvement, supporting PWDs, disaster risk reduction, research and now Covid-19 response. PHASE Nepal provides direct health services to more than 90,000 patients/year in remote Humla, Mugu, Bajura, Sindhupalchok and Gorkha. Thus, this project aims to save lives of health workers and community workers by supporting their treatment incase of possible infection & complications.

Support 300 Safe Births in the Nepal Himalaya
This project will fund 300 safe births in the remote Nepal Himalaya by employing trained midwives and funding essential equipment for maternal care. Northern Gorkha is a seriously neglected area. Health facilities are rudimentary and villages up to 7 days walk from a road. Young mothers and their babies risk their lives as they face the dangers of childbirth and the crucial first few weeks of life. High mortality rates can be mitigated if women and their babies have access to essential care.
