Safer Migration project (SaMi)
Labour migration is a central pillar of the Nepalese economy, remittances contributing to more than 20% of the GNI. According to the Constitution of Nepal (2015) foreign labour migration should be made safe and beneficial. To this end, Switzerland will continue to support the three spheres (federal, provincial and local) of the Government of Nepal through the pioneering Safer Migration project (SaMi) exit phase, aiming at institutionalising, professionalising and upscaling migration services offered across the country.

Programmets mål är att: Maximera utvecklingseffekterna av remitteringar och diasporans investeringar för att uppnå de globala målen. För att nå det övergripande målet har programmet fyra målsättningar: (i) Accelerera transformationen av remitteringsmarknader genom nyttjande av innovativa affärsmodeller och ny teknologi, för att generera större marknadseffektivitet och reducerade transaktionskostnader; (ii) Främja finansiell inkludering för att förse familjer som mottar remitteringar med fler valmöjligheter till att använda pengarna produktivt; (iii) Stötta mekanismer för diasporainvesteringar som riktar sig mot landsbygdsutveckling, sysselsättning och entreprenörskap; samt (iv) Öka den globala medvetenheten kring de positiva bidrag som migrantfamiljer gör i såväl mottagande- som avsändarländer och främja ny policy och nya partnerskap när utmaningar och möjligheter uppstår.

Reintegration of Returnee Migrant Workers Project
The project will contribute to ensure migrant workers benefit fully from their migration experience by supporting the reintegration of returnee migrant workers in Nepal. It will work with the Nepali Government to provide reintegration services and support policy development to anchor them in the federal structure. Switzerland has a key interest that the potential of migration for development is fully used and is well positioned to engage on the topic, given its track record in migration in Nepal.

Nepal Migration Profile: Promoting Strategic and Evidence Based Policy Making
The overall objective of this project is to promote and support evidence-based policy making and to call attention to the benefits of mainstreaming migration profile. In order to enhance coordination among relevant stakeholders and ensure the ownership, the project will establish an inter-ministerial working group, and the migration profile will be prepared in full consultation with the working group members. Additionally, the project will widely disseminate the findings of the migration profile and train policy makers and practitioners on how to collect, analyze and utilize migration data for policy making development.
