This project will support the transitional rehabilitation of up to 4,008 individuals who were verified as minors and late recruits (VMLRs) of the Maoist army in late 2007, and discharged from the Maoist army in early 2010. As such, the project will achieve the Peacebuilding Impact of implementing key elements of the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA) and the Agreement on Monitoring of the Management of Arms and Armies (AMMAA). Building on the successful interagency efforts that resulted in the discharge of these individuals, an interagency approach to rehabilitation will also be used whereby the expertise of UNDP, UNICEF, UNFPA and ILO will complement each other towards fulfillment of a common goal, thereby maximizing UN collaboration and synergies. The primary objective of this project is to have as many of the VMLRs as possible involved in gainful employment or livelihood opportunities. To achieve this, the project is framed around two complimentary Outcomes: 1) VMLRs were supported in their socio-economic rehabilitation; and 2) Communities were engaged in supporting the rehabilitation of VMLR participants.

The United Kingdom Trade Partnerships (UKTP) Programme aims to increase trade from developing countries to the United Kingdom (UK) and the European Union (EU) by maximizing the benefits of UK and EU Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) and the UK's Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS). The UKTP Programme works in partnership with government agencies, private sector organisations, public sector institutions, small and medium-sized enterprises and other local stakeholders. The UKTP Programme is funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland under the UK's Trade Centre of Expertise. EPA and DCTS countries participating in the UKTP Programme will have access to high quality trade-related technical assistance through sector initiatives. Target beneficiaries will be export-ready SMEs that are committed to securing new trade opportunities with the UK. This project will aim to promote exports through facilitating access to markets, providing advisory services to SMEs to improve their products and business operations, and strengthening business support organizations. This project builds upon the lessons learnt and achievements of the UKTP programme since 2019. Previous engagement with SMEs in multiple EPA countries has shown the benefit of selecting export-ready companies with compelling products for UK customers and consumers to participate and of preparing them specifically with UK market entry services to succeed in the UK market. This project complements and works in synergy with UKTP in the Pacific.

Rural households affected by the earthquake of April 25, 2015, especially from disadvantaged groups, will rebuild earthquake resistant houses through the RHRP, the Government’s lead project for housing reconstruction. Incidence of poverty in irrigated areas of Nepal is half that in rain-fed areas and access to irrigation water contributes thus to mitigate poverty. Since the marginal lands are better accessible through small irrigation schemes, reducing poverty of smallholder farmers through small irrigation systems[1] are more effective than medium-sized or large systems. SIP will not only help increase their agricultural productivity but will also enhance the capacity of national and local government so that they can respond to these needs.[1] Small-scale irrigation, defined by the GoN's irrigation policy as command areas smaller than 25 ha in the hills and mountains and 200 ha in Terai.
