Gender-based violence (GBV) is widely prevalent in Nepal due to patriarchal values, a lack of rights awareness and support services and poor implementation of laws. Working with a wide range of actors relevant for addressing GBV, the Project will directly reach 120,000 households in three districts of Nepal with GBV prevention activities involving women, girls, men and boys. In addition, a minimum of 1000 GBV survivors will benefit from improved medical, psychosocial and legal services.

During the project period, the SGP will deliver the following important socio-economic results: · SGP interventions will directly impact 120,000 beneficiaries/community partners, of which 50% are female through enhanced capacities and improved livelihoods and lives; · SGP will support CSO-Government-Private Sector dialogues in at least 10 countries to have scaled up policy impact · Under social inclusion, the SGP will ensure that 30% of its projects are led by women and that at least 50% of all SGP beneficiaries are women; · At least 20% of relevant SGP country programs integrate appropriate models to engage youth and 15% of countries have targeted support for indigenous peoples; · At least 15 countries will undertake South-South exchanges such that cross-fertilization and learnings between communities, CSOs and other partners are promoted; The interventions from the SGP contribute to global environmental benefits at multiple levels, starting from the global level, prioritized at the national level through the CPS, and translated into small grant actions in the field. Firstly, SGP priorities will be fully aligned to that of the GEF-7 Programming Directions Paper and its outcomes to meet the GEF-7 targets. Secondly, greater attention will be focused on creating synergy among individual projects using landscape or seascape approaches, as well as taking all opportunities for complementation with larger projects of the GEF and other donor agencies. Thirdly, SGP local initiatives will link to global initiatives and platforms, as well as fostering joint efforts with global networks. Finally, the implementation of “Grantmaker+” has been designed to support scaling up, mainstreaming and replication that will provide higher level capacity development (i.e. IP Fellowships), networking and institutional support, knowledge sharing (e.g. through South-South exchanges), and advocacy mechanisms at national levels (i.e. CSO-Government-Private Sector Dialogue Platforms), and where relevant, all of these to extend to regional and global levels. Insofar as the SGP interventions promote local socio-economic benefits such as improvement of local livelihoods and strengthening capacities of local communities, these will take into consideration the underlying aim to reduce threats from the local level to globally important environmental assets, raising awareness and mobilizing civil society and the wider public towards supporting environmentally friendly practices and approaches. In this way, the delivery of the socio-economic and other local benefits contribute towards the delivery of global environmental benefits.

Through the present project, IOM aims to contribute to the Government ofNepal's efforts in disaster preparedness through increasing capacity of first responders to effectively manage displaced populations in line with international standards and best practices. A comprehensive response in camp management aims at improving the quality of life and dignity of affected populations during displacement through engagement in participatory processes, working together with, and advocating on behalf of, internally displaced people, as well as other persons affected by humanitarian crisis. The National Red Cross Society (NRCS), as one of the key local responders in Nepal, will also participate in the capacity building activities to bridge the gap between immediate response and longer term management of displaced populations provided byinternational, national and local stakeholders. The proposed action willbe implemented over a two-year period and in close coordination with Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA), Ministry of Defense (MoD), Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD), Department of Urban Development and Building Codes (DUDBC), NA, NP, APF, NRCS and their regional and district offices, and with the support of IOM's Global Camp Coordination and CampManagement (CCCM) Cluster team.

Incidence of poverty in irrigated areas of Nepal is half that in rain-fed areas and access to irrigation water contributes thus to mitigate poverty. Since the marginal lands are better accessible through small irrigation schemes, reducing poverty of smallholder farmers through small irrigation systems[1] are more effective than medium-sized or large systems. SIP will not only help increase their agricultural productivity but will also enhance the capacity of national and local government so that they can respond to these needs.[1] Small-scale irrigation, defined by the GoN's irrigation policy as command areas smaller than 25 ha in the hills and mountains and 200 ha in Terai.
