This funding will enhance the Institute for Social and Environmental Transition - Nepal's (ISET-Nepal) role as a credible development partner by strengthening its ability to provide high-quality, influential, and policy-relevant research. About the Institute for Social and Environmental Transition - Nepal ISET-Nepal is a non-governmental and not-for-profit organization that studies and analyzes the developmental consequences of social and environmental change. Its research areas include climate change, water resources, migration, and urbanization. It receives its funding from the Think Tank Initiative (TTI). Influencing and informing policy TTI is a multi-funder program dedicated to strengthening independent policy research institutions, or think tanks, in developing countries. The program aims to enhance their ability to provide sound research that informs and influences policy. This second TTI phase (2014?2019) will fund 43 institutions, helping them consolidate their role as credible development actors in their countries, and in some cases, regionally and internationally. For ISET-Nepal, this project will help enhance its research quality, organizational performance, and policy engagement. Reputation for excellence Through this support over the next 4.5 years, ISET-Nepal is expected to -become an established research and knowledge-based think tank with growing visibility -cement its reputation as a key contributor to the policy-making process in Nepal -become a centre that formulates, implements, and evaluates public policy to understand how decisions are made -improve decision-makers' uptake of research results -achieve consistently high-quality research outputs through strong research capability and infrastructure -maintain consistent, efficient administration and financial processes and procedures -expand the list of partnerships with new organizations to promote uptake of research results at different levels of government.

Gender-based violence is a widespread problem in Nepal, and an obstacle to sustainable development. The SDC and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) launched a 3-year prevention and response project at the beginning of 2016. Women and girls are learning about their rights and being encouraged to report assaults. Men and boys are being encouraged to change their behaviour towards women. And duty bearers are learning to respond more rapidly and effectively. The project is already delivering first encouraging results.
