Stärkt civilsamhälle genom att IM, som en feministisk och antirasistisk förändringsaktör, katalyserar djupgående samhällsförändringar med fokus på: Rätt till social inkluderingEnligt IM omfattar socal inkludering rätten till deltagande, möjligheten att fritt bidra till samhället och rätten till icke-diskriminering. Det kan till exempel handla om att människor med funktionsnedsättning inte erhåller det stöd de behöver vad gäller tillgång till utbildning, meningsfull sysselsättning och hälso- och sjukvård. För att uppnå social inkludering kommer IM till exempel i Jordanien att arbeta med partners för att stärka utsatta gruppers kapacitet att utkräva sina rättigheter. IM kommer i Jordanien även att föra dialog med lokala och nationella ledare i syfte att förbättra lagstiftningen och de strukturer som finns för att säkerställa social inkludering.  Rätt till ekonomisk inkluderingEnligt IM handlar ekonomisk inkludering om att ge marginaliserade grupper möjligheten att ha ägarskap över sitt ekonomiska liv. Målgruppen ska ges möjlighet till en förbättrad ekonomisk situation samtidigt som deras status i samhället stärks.  För att uppnå ekonomisk inkludering kommer IM till exempel i Malawi att fortsätta att stödja "village savings and loan associations" för kvinnor. Vidare kommer IM i Malawi att stödja unga människors initiativ gällande klimatsmarta bevattningssystem som drivs av solenergi. IM Malawi är även medlem i "Movement for Community Led Development - Malawi chapter" som övervakar regeringens åtagande enligt SDG:s 4,5,8 och 9. ICIMOD has applied for support from Sida amounting to 150 000 000 SEK for implementation of ICIMOD's operations in the Hindu Kush Himalayan region, according to the plan "Medium Term Action Plan, 2018-2022". ICIMOD is an intergovernmental organization which through regional cooperation generates and shares knowledge to promote sustainble development in the region. The organization's member countries are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal and Pakistan. The ICIMOD's programs contribute to reduced poverty, reduced physical and social vulnerability and improvement of ecosystem services for men, women and children in the region. The Swedish contribution is given as overall program support in order to harmonize the support as far as possible for the effective implementation of the five-year plan. Program support includes support for regional programs, - innovation and integration as well as institutional functions. Planned strategic results are: - Dissemination of innovations and practices developed by ICIMOD and partners for adaptation to changes that result in positive results for men, women and children. E.g.: flood early warning systems and climate change adapted value chains. - Significant progress in the generation and use of relevant data, knowledge and analysis. E.g.: Measure, monitor and manage air pollution levels. - Significant progress in approaches and knowledge supporting gender equality and inclusive development. E.g.: Strengthen women's capacity and leadership roles in agriculture and local decision making bodies. - Significant progress in human and institutional capacity. E.g.: Strengthen the member countries' environmental management authorities. - Significantly affected policies through ICIMOD and partner organizations work. E.g.: contribute to improved environmental legislation in the region. - Strengthened regional cooperation related to sustainable development in mountain areas. E.g.: promote technical exchange between countries and joint management of transboundary natural resources. - Global awareness of the importance of mountain areas for improved and resilient living conditions and ecosystems. E.g.: influence at the global climate negotiations. The Swedish contribution will fund the completion of the current phase in 2017 and a broad program support for ICIMOD's five-year plan 2018-2022. Funding of the new five-year plan is planned with support from 8 donors where Sweden is included. In addition, smaller amounts will be provided from the eight member states. ICIMOD retains approximately 70% of the budget for regional programs and transmits about 30% to partner organizations. Sweden is a longstanding cooperation partner of ICIMOD, and Sweden has during the period 2012-2016 financed two of ICIMOD's initiatives, the climate change adaptation initiative HICAP and the Atmosphere initiative. ICIMOD performs annual audits of third party organizations that receive funds exceeding SEK 505,000. The environmental economics network SANDEE, which has for 15 years been supported with good results under Sweden's Strategy for Research Cooperation, will from 2017 be integrated into ICIMOD and take part of Sweden's new programme support to ICIMOD. SANDEE's results will continue to contribute to the Research Strategy. Sweden will also separately finance a Bilateral Associate Expert (BAE) position at ICIMOD, in the field of water and climate adaptation.

Insatsens övergripande mål är att bidra till UNDPs strategiska plan 2022-2025. Insatsen syftar specifikt till att stärka UNDPs organisatoriska kapacitet och konkreta resultat vad gäller miljö och klimat inom hela sin globala verksamhet. Viktiga utgångspunkter för Sidas stöd har varit att a) stärka länders kapacitet att genomföra sitt miljö- och klimatarbete b) motverka tematisk fragmentering av de olika miljöfrågorna och stärka sammanhållet miljö/klimatarbete på landnivå, och c) ge UNDP bättre förutsättningar att bli mindre projektdrivet och minska behovet/drivkraften att jaga medel från GCF, GEF (ibland i konkurrens med samarbetsländer). Mer specifikt ska insatsen bidra till att: 1. Minska fattigdom i alla dess former och dimensioner 2. Accelerera en strukturell transformation för hållbar utveckling 3. Stärka UNDP:s kapacitet och organisatoriska effektivitet. Insatsen har två delar en institutionell och en tematisk. Programmet har ett adaptivt arbetssätt för att anpassa verksamheten till förändrade förutsättningar och behov. Nya tematiska arbetsområden har därför tillkommit under programmets genomförande. Den institutionella delen har följande delkomponenter: - Intern kapacitetsutveckling - Integrerad programutveckling - Regelverk för sociala och miljömässiga aspekter i verksamheten - Jämställdhetsintegrering - Kommunikation och lärande - Partnerskap Den tematiska delen hade ursprungligen följande delkomponenter: A. Biologisk mångfald B. Vatten (sötvatten och marint) C. Klimat och energi D. Livsmedelssystem Två nya tematiska områden tillkom år 2023: E. Klimatsäkerhet F. Plast och Avfall Aktiviteter under respektive delkomponent är förvisso globala men detta program har ett särskilt fokus på nio pilotländer (Colombia, Uganda, Etiopien, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Kambodja, Nepal, Fiji, Haiti). För insatsen finns ett resultatramverk med indikatorer på output nivå. Nya indikatorer med mål på output nivå för de två nya delkomponenterna (E och F) har lagts till i det uppdaterade resultatramverket för 2023.

IOM Nepal will build on the recommendations and gaps identified on its existing studies on skills profiling and reintegration and conduct an in-depth and extensive macro level study to understand the supply and demand part of the skills. The study will map existing training institutions in Nepal, register the type of trainings provided and market diagnostics on the recruitment of trained personnel by private/public sector in Nepal and the role of private recruitment agencies in this process. In recent years, migrants have made a significant contribution to the socio-economic landscape of Nepal. However, as migration and sustainable development is an issue which has not yet been addressed in the curricula of Nepali universities, there exists a gap in academic knowledge and a small number of policymakers with expertise on the matter. As a result, stakeholders such as academicians, policymakers and practitioners have limited exposure on an overarching comprehensive and harmonized approach to migration for development. Migration governance thus remains to be mainstreamed in the policies of all three tiers (federal, provincial and local level) of government. In light of the above, the objective of this project is to support the Government of Nepal in addressing migration issues in a comprehensive manner for the benefit of sustainable development through the acquisition of migration knowledge.The project will seek to do so by engaging the government, civil society actors and members of academia to work collaboratively in the field of migration and improve their understanding on the complexity of migration impacts in Nepal. To that end, the project will: establish and hold two editions of the School on Migration Studies (SMS), which will provide an interactive course for the benefit of the aforementioned stakeholders to strengthen their knowledge on migration and sustainable development, addressing various thematic areas on migration; provide grants for students and young researchers to produce novel and local migration research; and produce recommendations to identify and address knowledge gaps, and assess training needs in the field of migration research.

This application will build understanding of the uncertainties that poor rural households face in South Asian Mountains and how they respond to them. The collaboration aims to shift thinking away from a risk to an uncertainty framing of the hazards of mountain lives, paying attention to the time preference behavior of poor people and generate new research capacities, proposals and deliberative policy approaches to respond to this. Mountains are centers of social marginality and are deeply affected by climate change. Uncertainties cannot be given probabilities in contrast to risks and can be a threat or an opportunity. The challenge is to understand how households navigate hazards and the conditions that might allow them to build transformational resilience capacities. The collaboration with partners in Nepal, India and Bhutan will foster debate, learning and develop new methods of understanding of uncertainty and its sources in different mountain contexts. Key collaboration activities will include meetings in each country research site. These will involve joint field visits, analytical workshops for sharing new learning and planning research outputs, seminars with relevant partners and deliberative policy engagement activities with selected policy makers. Virtual writing workshops will support writing processes and new research proposals. During the two year collaboration we will visit each partner country site exploring the contextually specific nature of uncertainty.

Purpose and aims: To determine the prevalence of developmental delays and disabilities (DDD) for children in Nepal who had complications around the time of birth, and to develop and evaluate an intervention for children with DDD in regard to feasibility and effect on participation for children and quality of life for caregivers. Study design & methods:  Part 1: A prospective cohort study of two cohorts of children who received (n 381) and did not receive (n 381) newborn interventions due to complications at birth at a tertiary hospital in Nepal, Children in both cohorts will be followed up at 3-5 years of age to screen for DDD, children identified with DDD will be assessed by a specialized team for diagnosis.Part 2: A cluster randomized trial with one intervention (n 51) and one control arm (n 51). Including the following dimensions:Monthly peer-support group workshopsIndividual goal-directed sessionsFamily support daysCommunity workshopsSignificance: This study will provide information on long-term impact of development for children that had complications around the time of birth and received basic interventions for newborn survival. Forest restoration is a key environmental policy objective of the present era. In the UN’s present “Decade of Restoration”, countries around the world have pledged to restore hundreds of millions of hectares of degraded forests — targeting rural areas of the global south where millions of rural and indigenous people live. While these efforts have potential to support a range of environmental priorities, it remains unclear to what extent large-scale restoration efforts are compatible with rural needs and other development objectives. Responding to growing calls for strengthening community rights and involvement, we ask: How, and under what conditions, can community forest governance lead to improvements in human well-being, carbon sequestration, and biodiversity from forest restoration? This mixed-methods project explores how national and state-level policy efforts in Nepal and India shape local influence in restoration planning, and we build a large dataset to test how different local governance conditions impact livelihoods, carbon sequestration, and biodiversity. In so doing, our work provides key advances to (a) better incorporate multi-scalar power and politics in theories of environmental governance, (b) generate new evidence of the relationship between carbon sequestration, biodiversity, and rural well-being, and (c) support policy innovations to advance toward a more just and sustainable global future.
