Development projects in Nepal

PWA continues to assist those displaced by the 2015 earthquakes. PWA recovery efforts target livelihoods, particularly female-headed households. PWA and partners are constructing three community centers where women and girls receive tools, training, and support to enter the labor force in a safe environment. To complement our community center program PWA is also expanding to support water and sanitation projects to build water and toilet facilities for homes and schools currently lacking them.

The project will provide vegetable seed packets, garden tools and materials so that the earthquake survivors can start backyard gardening and ensure food security. International food aid will be gone in a short while and will never be enough. Meanwhile gardening is easy to do, will provide relaxation and value for the depressed survivors and best of all will provide food and nutrients on a daily basis. The survivors do not have to wait for long since some vegetables mature in 22 days.

A powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal on April 25, approximately 50 miles from Kathmandu. The affected area is home to many Room to Read staff members and program communities. HC3 is the flagship project for behavior change in the Global Health Bureau. Expected results 2024: The programme as a whole will contribute to global sustainable development. The scholarship holders are expected to use their knowledge, insights, tools and networks in the work for sustainable development where they are. Expected results 2025: The Swedish Institute scholarship programme should according to the governing Strategy for innovation, partnership and capacity development 2024–2028 strengthen the capacity of relevant actors who can contribute to sustainable development in development countries through education. A prerequisite for this is that the selected scholarship holders are qualified to carry out and complete qualitative education on master’s level at Swedish universities. The goal of MTaPS is to enable low- and middle-income countries to strengthen their pharmaceutical systems to ensure sustainable access to and appropriate use of safe, effective, quality-assured, and affordable essential medical products and medicines-related pharmaceutical services.
