Support to Nepal in the field of quality infrastructure

The key points of the programme were defined in a sector review of economic cooperation with Nepal conducted by the German Evaluation Institute in the first half of 2017. According to this, the programme is to concentrate on improving the framework conditions for private sector development with a focus on the current priority region - provinces in western Nepal. Regardless of how the further procedure is defined, quality infrastructure is an essential and relevant component in the envisaged programme context. On the one hand, the strengthening of quality assurance institutions will create an improved range of economically relevant measurement and testing services. This can be used by companies - successively also at regional level - to improve their product quality and thus strengthen their competitiveness. In addition, the transfer of international standards and good practices in quality management facilitates access to regional and international markets. With the appropriate integration of upstream cultivation and processing enterprises, the entire value chain benefits, which contributes to the development of sustainable economic structures.
