Improving medical capacities in peace operations

This project aims to support the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) in building the capacity of uniformed men and women medical and paramedical personnel deployed to high-risk peace operations through the delivery of pre-deployment field medical trainings. This project includes top troop and police contributing countries from Africa and Asia that are selected based on their deployment ranking and participation in previous trainings. Project activities include: (1) conducting needs assessments; (2) delivering a preparatory workshop for trainers; (3) delivering up to 3 to 4 weeks basic field medical trainings, including mental health components; (4) delivering up to 2 to 4 weeks advanced medical or mental health trainings; and (5) delivering up to 2 to 4 weeks train the trainer courses on basic field medical training.
