World Food Programme 2011-12 Emergency Assistance
The World Food Programme (WFP) aims to save lives in refugee and other emergency situations; to improve the nutrition and quality of life of the most vulnerable people at critical times in their lives; and to help build assets and promote the self-reliance of poor people and communities, particularly through labour-intensive works programmes. Funding under this initiative supports the WFP's Emergency Assistance Program Fund covering the operations and cost associated with the purchase, transportation and storage of commodities in response to emergency situations in countries that have been identified as priority developing countries by Australia. The total value of this multi-country initiative is $25.0 million expensed during the 2010-11 financial year.
