Up-scaling WASH systems strengthening approach in the Terai region of Nepal

By strengthening the governance and WASH service provision of service authorities and service providers, the project targets communities of 10 municipalities in the districts of Saptari and Siraha in the Madhesh Province, for a total population of approximatively 448.827 users (50.523 households).Marginalized and vulnerable individuals and households, communities, FCHVs, health staff, WSUCs, school committees benefitting from specific measures such as, among others, CLTS campaigns and the promotion of total sanitation, WASH behavior change, WASH awareness and MHM in schools, demonstration of WASH model infrastructures and facilities, and capacity building.Beneficiaries at meso level include 10 local governments (6 municipalities targeted in phase 1 and 4 new municipalities included in phase 2) with their elected representatives and technical departments.At macro level, the Madhesh provincial government, the WASH departments of federal government, relevant stakeholders and actors of the WASH sector will benefit through evidence-based knowledge/learning sharing on the WASH systems strengthening approach, dissemination of standardized methods and tools, technical studies and backstopping, and advocacy initiatives.
