Sustainable, Just and Productive Water Resources Development in Western Nepal
(Nepal): Water, poverty, and environment are intrinsically linked. Management of water to improve access, quality, and safe use at river basin scale is essential for a healthy population. Economic growth is also dependent on water, whether through farm irrigation or hydropower facilities. However, climate change is affecting hydrological systems in Nepal, causing longer dry seasons, changes in the monsoon pattern, reduced recharge of underground aquifers, and increases in the frequency of flood and drought disasters.. .This project will investigate the water resource sector at a river basin scale, in the context of climate change models, to help inform decision makers about options, risks, and opportunities for maximizing sustainable use of water across various sectors within selected basins. Results will inform activities implemented by the Program for Aquatic Natural Resources Improvement.. .The project will utilize $623,015 of FY 2016 GCC Adaptation funds..
