Hariyo Ban

(Nepal): The Hariyo Ban program aims to reduce threats to biodiversity and address climate-induced vulnerabilities of people and ecosystems in two mega-diverse landscapes of Nepal- the Terai Arc and Chitwan Annapurna Landscapes. Building on the success of the last two years, USAID plans to use $2 M of FY 2014 SL-GCC funds to continue the Hariyo Ban program to: i) support Nepal's readiness for pay-for-performance programs, including the national REDD+ strategy for Nepal; ii) address threats to biodiversity conservation by promoting sustainable management and conservation practices; and iii) implement on-the-ground adaptation and mitigation actions to increase resilience of vulnerable people and priority ecosystems in Nepal. The program will continue to work closely with the government, local conservation organizations and community forest user groups, and other donors to build local stakeholder's capacity on biodiversity conservation and climate change adaptation and mitigation in Nepal.
