Core Support
Since 2014, WaterAid’s global partnership with Sida has been instrumental in advancing the attainment of Sustainable Development Goal 6 – Water and Sanitation, contributing to stronger health systems, quality healthcare, sexual and reproductive health and rights, quality education, inclusion and gender equality. WaterAid’s global strategy outlines that we will work to strengthen health systems through integrating WASH and hygiene behaviour change, prioritising women and girls, who make up the majority of health service users and health workers. During this strategy period, WaterAid seeks to build on and accelerate the gains made during the last Global Strategy and drive forward the global momentum that has been generated for an ambitious agenda to build stronger health systems through WASH. The core funding WaterAid receives from Sida allows us to continue important strategic interventions, for example system strengthening, health and SRHR activities, innovative partnerships, as well as strengthen gender inclusivity and a human rights-based approach. During the agreement period, Sida also supported a CLIMB phase 1 pilot that contractually linked the civil society programme with the core support from the thematic Health and SRHR strategy (Sida contribution No. 15221). The pilot enabled WaterAid to test in practice and contractually how the two grants could be strategically aligned and focused on establishing governance structures, onboarding partners, strengthening organisational capacity and preparing for the subsequent CLIMB programme phase.
