1. Project: 11882 Advocating for consolidation of Equality and Non-discrimination for Sustainable Peace (ENDS) Action in Nepal #2. Project area and Country: Dhanusha and Mahottari districts, Nepal. #3. Project justification: #Caste based discrimination th at affects in particular the Dalits, is the worst form of discrimination practiced in Nepal. The Dalits have limited access to education and information and their social participation is limited. The status of women and girls is low. Yet, they lack the cap acity and skills to address these challenges. Their social mobility is limited and they have limited access to alternative livelihood opportunities and income. #The implementation of rights based on the provisions in the 2015 constitution and legislation i s weak. Communities and their leaders lack knowledge and information about how to exercise their rights and fulfil their duties. In the coming years, policy advocacy will play a crucial role in influencing local laws and policymaking processes on behalf of the marginalized groups, as well as to establish platforms to promote dialogue between the people and the service providers. #4. The main objective and expected results:#The main objective of the project is to increase the participation of Dalits and the poorest rural communities in social and economic activities, local structures and decision-making that affect their lives. This will be accomplished through enhanced access to social and economic capital and opportunities and increased knowledge and eviden ce based advocacy for the inclusion and equality of the target groups. The main activities include support to the implementation of small-scale community development schemes, entrepreneurship, business and skill trainings, support to local IGAs/MEs, awaren ess raising on new governance structures and peoples roles and rights based on the provisions in the national legislation, networking and capacity building for local leaders, and evidence based advocacy toward the local government. #5. Right-holders/ benef iciaries: 1932 targeted Dalits in Dhanusha and Mahottari districts #Duty bearers: District Administration Office, Nepal Police, justice providers and government offices #6. Implementing partner: Nepal National Dalit Social Welfare Organization (NNDSWO)
