Global Health and Food Security in Nepal

(Nepal): Peace Corps (PC) returned to Nepal in late 2012. USAID and PC signed a five-year Inter-Agency Agreement (IAA) in December 2011. USAID is contributing $10 million to the IAA. This innovative program utilizes a whole-of-government approach, bringing together the comparative advantages of PC and USAID in implementing two Presidential Initiatives: Global Health Initiative (GHI) and Feed the Future (FTF).In FY 2014, $500,000 in GHI funds and $135,000 in FTF funds will be used for volunteer support costs, volunteer infrastructure support, and staff salaries. Thirty-five new Peace Corps Volunteers (PCVs) will join the previous 50 in Nepal in FY 2014. The PCVs will support both FTF and GHI objectives. PCVs will work in nutrition, business, and agriculture, and may also support capacity building, monitoring and evaluation, and community assessments.
