Nepal?s biodiversity is under constant threat from habitat degradation and fragmentation, deforestation and forest degradation which are driven by unplanned infrastructure development, uncontrolled forest fires. The iconic Himalayan species as tigers and s now leopards are threaten by poaching and illegal wildlife trade as well as causing human wildlife conflicts in some areas. Moreover, climate change has exacerbated the threats to biodiversity and people?s livelihoods. We work in two priority landscapes in Nepal: Terai Arc Landscape in Southern-Nepal and Sacred Himalayan Landscape in North-East-Nepal. The conservation work improves corridor and buffer zone conservation and management, reduces deforestation and strengthens community-based conservation. Our wo rk enables increase in the population of key species such as rhino and tiger by decreased illegal wildlife trade and poaching and protection of their habitats. Improvement of the livelihoods and wellbeing of the local communities is gained through developi ng income generating activities such as forest-based enterprises and by increasing access to energy and developing health and hygiene solutions. In addition we increase conservation awareness and empower local youth to act for the environment. We also deve lop integrated river basin management and water smart communities which help local communities to adapt in climate change. Beneficiaries: the local community forest user groups, women and youth groups, ethnic minority groups, forest workers and disadvantag ed groups.
