223415_Nepal Flood and landslide response (Start Fund Alert N-24)
Supporting the marginalized and the most vulnerable people to cope with flood and landslide with emergency Food Items (FI) and/or Non-Food Items (NFI) in NEPAL. Severe flooding and landslides in Sindhuli and Rautahat districts of Nepal have caused widespread displacement, extensive infrastructure damage, and devastated agricultural lands. Immediate humanitarian response is needed to provide emergency shelter, food, clean water, and medical aid, especially for vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, children, and people with disabilities. The proposed districts are located in geographically remote areas, increasing their vulnerability to poverty and crisis. The LG and some of the humanitarian actors (eg Nepal Red Cross, Plan International are already on the ground in Sindhuli and Care Nepal is present in Rautahat, however they are not active for response now to support the affected families. Convening Agency will coordinate with Care Nepal in Rautahat while implementing the project. To ensure that basic human rights and humanitarian needs such as access to food and shelter are met, there is an urgent need to aid the people affected by the disaster in the specified locations. To carry out these activities, the Convening Agency will deploy its Head Office and Field Office Staff, who have experience in emergency response, to provide technical support to the partners in the project areas. Additionally, experienced project staff from local districts will be mobilized. To ensure that, NFI-shelter, Kitchen kit, hygiene kit, dignity kits and shelter materials will be of quality that meets minimum humanitarian standards, and a choice that is preferred by the target group, Convening Agency has incorporated information and learning from past distributions to inform this project design. The project will also invest resources to support orientation (of project staffs and stakeholders) on safeguarding and PSEA policies, GBV concerns and Core humanitarian standards as well as sensitize the beneficiaries on existing complaints and response mechanisms (CRM) embedded in ongoing consortiums programming. Finally, the project will conduct stakeholders monitoring and PDM to ensure the project is ongoing as planned and determine beneficiary satisfaction with the interventions and the process. The total cost per (direct) beneficiary is estimated at GBP 25 noting that the project will also reach indirect beneficiaries.
