Priority Action for Lifesaving Integrated Nutrition Rapid Response in Four Flood Affected Districts (Surkhet, Banke, Bardiya and Dang)
Floods and landslides caused a rapid deterioration in the already precarious nutritional status of thousands of children in four districts of Nepal. A rapid assessment showed SAM rates ranging from 3% to 10% with the average GAM rate of 25%. With CERF funds, UNICEF and partners will introduce a comprehensive Life Saving integrated Nutrition and WASH emergency response, in the four flood affected districts. Specifically, UNICEF will treat moderately malnourished children with Ready-tu-Use Therapeutic Food in Outpatient Therapeutic Programme centers and acutely malnourished children in the local hospital. Additionally, community-level nutrition education campaigns will be carried out. The project will benefit some 20,000 children under five.
