ROAP/NEP05 Accelerating the localization of integrated climate actions in Nepal
The main objective of this joint programme is to accelerate the SDG Transition on Climate and Biodiversity through integrated, localised climate actions and frameworks in Nepal that support in minimizing the impacts of climate change, particularly in benefit of those most marginalised and poor. For that, the JP will support two main engine room actions, namely shifts across policy and regulatory frameworks and capacity building at scale. WFP, UNDP and UN Habitat will build into their respective comparative advantages within the climate change and localization work in Nepal to undertake advocacy and actions that lead to the generation of knowledge as catalogue of successful, inclusive and contextual climate actions being implemented in several local governments of Nepal, in order to formulate an integrated framework for localization of SDG 13 and develop climate interventions in the target municipalities. The JP will also capacitate sub-national actors to advance localization of climate actions through participatory processes. Lastly, the JP will advocate through evidence-based products, derived from the target municipalities, for the scale up of localized climate actions across Nepal to enhance awareness and attract financing. The JP will be aligned to relevant policies and programmes from the government and will directly contribute to the Nepal UNSDCF 2023-2027 Priority Area 3 on environmental sustainability, climate and disaster resilience.
