Empowered Citizens are Promoting Food and Nutrition Governance in three Municipalities of Kapilvastu district

Direct target groups: A total of 5.241 individuals are the target groups out of which 75 % (3.957) are women and adolescent girls and will be directly involved in the interventions. Thereby, the direct project activities with the groups of the local population take place in 15 of the total 33 wards in the three target municipalities Maharajgunj, Kapilvastu and Buddhabhumi. The project will facilitate to form the 195 groups with about 25 members each (45 LANN+ groups, 45 adolescent / youth groups and 105 farmer groups). Based on the low socio-economic status, 3.788 women will be selected for specific activities in nutrition, agriculture, livelihood options. Other direct target groups will be 150 Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs) who work in the health service and the 30 religious’ and/or community leaders under specific activities in the project. The direct target groups contribute to the project with their commitment, investing mainly their time, labor costs, local materials and resources, and agricultural land. In addition, they pass on the knowledge they have acquired to other community members.Institutional target groups are the three municipalities with their 33 wards (= lowest administrative unit). Their chairs, officers and municipal staff will be selected to take part in capacity development measures, advocacy events, committees, meetings, exchange programmes, awareness events covering 186 persons. 30 staff of RRN and KIDS will receive capacity development measures in project management topics.  Indirect target groups are all those groups or individuals the project collaborates with. The total population of 232.918 living in the three rural municipalities will benefit from the improvements in the food and nutrition governance, the municipal nutrition master plans and the empowered citizens. They will also have advantages from community focused awareness creation covering subjects such as nutrition, health and the related rights and entitlements.
