Maternal Health Services for the Disadvantaged
Reducing maternal mortality is one of the key priorities for the Government of Nepal's health sector program. Australia's support delivered through the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) aims to provide increased maternal health services to disadvantaged women in five rural district of Nepal - Rukum, Accham, Humla, Panchthar and Udaypur. UNICEF will provide both implementation and technical support to the Government of Nepal's Family Health Division (FHD) and District Public Health Offices from the five districts. The project will adopt a two pronged strategy: 1. strengthening demand creation at the community level by raising community awareness; and 2. strengthening services at the health facility level for improved utilisation of services, to ensure mothers and their newborn receive a continuum of care from antenatal (pre-delivery) to post partum (post delivery) period and from home to the health facility.
