Prevention of sexual exploitation, human trafficking and unsafe migration in Nepal

Nepal is the country of origin of many forced prostitutes who end up in the brothels of Indias major cities or are sold as domestic servants to the Gulf States or Malaysia, where they are often sexually exploited. The reasons that contribute to human trafficking are extreme poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, domestic and other forms of violence, social discrimination and the lack of political will to take action against these abuses. Survivors of human trafficking receive assistance and support so that they can lead a life in dignity again. Furthermore, girls and women at risk, their families and communities will be sensitised and border monitoring and advocacy initiatives will be carried out at national level to promote safer migration and prevent human trafficking and exploitation. The project works closely with various stakeholders, including government agencies.
