Ipas 2018-2024
Ipas is a nonprofit organisatíon based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, US. They work in 16 countries and have three regional offices. Ipas requests SEK 312.500.000 in core support for the period Fiscal Years (FY) 2018 - 2023, to continue the partnership with Sida with the ultimate goal of eliminating unsafe abortion and ensure access to contraceptives. Sida's contribution is 8% of the total budget of USD 428 436 000. Sida and six other donors are providing core support with a number of smaller donors providing restricted funding. Ipas will meet the reproductive health needs of women and girls by creating enabling environments that support the access to high-quality abortion and contraceptive care; ensure that high-quality abortion and contraceptive care are available, accessible, and acceptable; and ensure that women and girls have the social support, knowledge, and self-efficacy to access safe abortion and contraception. The core support is to enable Ipas to implement its strategic plan (SP) FY 2018 - 2023. lpas is working to strengthen health systems, policy & advocacy (at global, regional and national leves), training providers on abortion care, community engagement & stigma reduction, research, integration of abortion and contraception in humanitarian and sexual education through support to civil society actors, as well as provision of abortion services, equipment and counseling in public health services in 16 countries, three regional programs as well as globally. The programme focus on Africa where the needs are considered the highest. By the end of Ipas' strategic plan,will result in 3.8 million unsafe abortions averted (7% of the total of unsafe abortions in the countries where Ipas works); 6% of all abortions in countries (4.9M) will be performed at Ipas- supported facilities and 4% of unitended pregnancies (7.7 M) will be averted.
