Improvement of Mother and Child Care in Urban Areas - Paropakar Maternity and Womens Hospital Kathmandu II

The module aims to improve access to and increase utilization of quality medical care for pregnant women and newborns at the selected satellite hospitals in the Kathmandu Valley, while reducing the burden on and specializing the Paropakar Maternity and Womens Hospital (Paropakar) Kathmandu. Additionally, the module aims to strengthen gender equality and empower women in leadership, management, service delivery and user groups in the catchment area of the satellite hospitals. The recipient is the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal. The project executing agency, in addition to the Nepalese Ministry of Health, is Paropakar in Kathmandu. The direct target group is the population living in the Kathmandu Valley, especially women and children. The project measures include the construction of a new satellite hospital in Chandragiri, in the far west of the Kathmandu Valley. The location of the satellite hospital is in the immediate periphery of the Kathmandu Valley, in order to relieve Paropakar of mainly normal and low-risk births and to alleviate existing bottlenecks in mother-child care. The project will also finance necessary medical equipment and the digital connection and networking between Paropakar and the satellite hospital. Measures to promote energy efficiency will also be implemented. A complementary measure is planned to train the executing agencys managerial and executive staff (Paropakar and satellite hospitals), especially in the management, handling, operation and maintenance of financed measures and environmental and social standards.
