Support to Humanitarian Logistics Operations
On 25 April 2015, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal with the epicentre located 81 km northwest of the capital city of Kathmandu. The earthquake impacted 39 out of the 75 districts in the country with 14 districts most affected, left over 8,000 people dead and destroyed over 500,000 houses. With the severe humanitarian impact of the disaster, the Government of Nepal requested for international humanitarian support on 26 April 2015 . The World Food Program (WFP) has been providing logistic operations which includes the Humanitarian Staging Area at the international airport, communication facilities, storage space and office buildings. Additionally, WFP is providing common services for the entire humanitarian community, including storage facilities, and is supporting the transportation of relief items that go beyond just food. WFP is also coordinating the logistics needs of all United Nations (UN) agencies and Non-Government Organisations, through the Logistics Cluster, so that the
