British Council Official Development Assistance (ODA)

The British Council supports peace and prosperity by building connections, understanding and trust between people in the UK and countries worldwide. All its ODA funded work, via its Global Programmes, supports this mission, in low-and middle-income countries, combining its deep expertise in arts and culture, education and the English language. This IATI activity entry is the parent-entry for its current set of Global Programmes funded by the ODA portion of its FCDO Grant-in-Aid. The British Council receives Grant-in-Aid from, and is sponsored by, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), from which the British Council has operational independence as an Arms-Length Body. The relationship between the British Council and the FCDO is set out in the Framework Document, linked below. The majority of the grant-in-aid received from the FCDO is required to be spent on Official Development Assistance (ODA) eligible activity. This has informed the purpose and outcomes of the Global Programmes. Note that for financial reporting: budget and finances are ODA only and are reported at a Global Programme level as opposed to this parent-level entry (see linked activities below).
