KISAN II develop local market systems for rice, maize, lentils, high-value vegetables, and goats through technical assistance to farmers to access productivity-enhancing and improved post-harvest practices and technologies; and by strengthening extension services through introduction of new technologies and business models to improve storage, mechanization, input supply, and finance. KISAN II will administer a $1.5 million grants program to foster partnerships with 125 private firms and cooperatives in order to provide market-based solutions to improve agricultural productivity and market access for 130,000 farming households. KISAN II will work with the Ministry of Agriculture and relevant departments to provide an evidence base that will inform policy formulation to create a favorable business enabling environment. These interventions will contribute to the GFSS overall goal of sustainably reducing hunger, malnutrition and poverty through nutrition-sensitive approaches, which directly contributes to Embassy Kathmandu's Integrated Country Strategy (ICS) Objective 2.1: Nepal advances inclusive and sustainable economic growth to reduce extreme poverty and increase rules-based trade, competitiveness, and cross-border cooperation, and becomes a reliable economic partner for increased American prosperity.
