Gender Capacity Building, Research and Advocacy

Funding under this initiative supports capacity building, research and advocacy activities which will contribute to the scaling up of gender policy, with particular emphasis on women's leadership and economic empowerment. Funding will support: women's leadership program to generate key policy on the central role of leaders, elites and coalitions in indigenous institution and states and development of women's leadership case studies across Africa, the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific regions; sponsorship of 2011 International Women's Day activities; research on men's perspectives on the determinants and consequences of son preference and sex selection in Vietnam, Nepal and Pakistan; development of framework for future work program; and identification of research gaps in relation to women and the economy. The total value of this initiative is $0.6 million to be expensed during the 2009-10 financial year.
