Nepal Health and Hygiene Activity (HHA) - Swachchhata

(Nepal): The Swachchhata activity improves hygiene conditions and practices in healthcare facilities (HCF) across four districts of Nepal's Province 6; strengthens the Ministry of Health and Population's (MOHP).capacity to maintain infection prevention (IP) and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) standards in HCFs; and improves community hygiene behaviors. Using FY 2019 funds, USAID will complete construction of water supply, toilet facilities, waste management, and electrical installation for selected facilities. To ensure sustainability of these structures, USAID will train Health Facility Operations and Management Committees (HFOMCs) on governance and maintenance procedures. USAID will also train healthcare providers and community health volunteers to incorporate hygiene messages during health counseling sessions. This training will also include an advocacy module to help health staff secure funds from HFOMCs to procure supplies and equipment. Funds will also be used to train HFOMCs on monitoring the effectiveness of hygiene communication by health workers, including how to conduct client satisfaction exit surveys. Overall, the activity will contribute to the Government of Nepal's journey to self-reliance by strengthening commitment and capacity to improve health outcomes and ensuring a healthy and productive workforce. USAID will leverage SNV's global WASH expertise to improve Nepal's national WASH standards in HCFs in support of Embassy Kathmandu's Integrated Country Strategy Mission Goal Two: Increase America's prosperity by developing Nepal as a reliable economic partner and Mission Objective 2.2, Nepal improves health and education outcomes to increase economic productivity..
