F.a: Village electrification with wind turbine and solar power system in Nepal's Upper Mustang region
In the project a hybrid electricity system based on wind and photovoltaic will be installed in very remote Chumjung village in dry upland area of Upper Mustang in the northernmost Nepal. The one-kilowatt windmill will be constructed locally from Nepalese materials. Reliability to village electrification will be provided by 3 kW solar electricity system. Direct beneficiaries include around 130 persons in 40 households. Also village school will receive electricity. Village Electrification Committee (VEC) wi ll be responsible for all decision making during project implementation and post-construction including operation and management of the system, as well as sets the electricity tariffs for households. The desired development impact of the project is the so cio-economic upliftment of the last-mile community through the use of modern energy services, and improved promotion of solar wind hybrid technology through demonstration for communities in similar geographical locations of Nepal. The anticipated outcomes of project are: Electrification of the current households and the only primary school in Chumjung village. Enhanced capacity of local users to operate and manage installed energy system. Project partner is Nepalese NGO Energy, Environment Research and Deve lopment Centre (EERDC), which works to improve the livelihoods of rural people by providing sustainable and renewable energy technologies. In this project, EERDC partners with People Energy and Environment Development Association (PEEDA) NGO, which has ple nty of experience in implementing energy projects and in supporting local participation in them. www.eerdc.org.np and www.peeda.net
