Food Security and Resilient Livelihoods with Focus on Earthquake Affected Families through Civil Society Strengthening (SUSTAIN)
The project aims to support 2,500 smallholder households in the districts of Jajarkot and Rukum West in western Nepal to sustainably secure their livelihoods and improve their nutrition and income situation by strengthening civil society structures (self-help groups, CBOs) and local administrative and government capacities. The target group includes earthquake-affected households and marginalised groups (women, youth, Dalits, Janajatis, people with disabilities). The project promotes climate-smart agricultural practices and access to quality inputs. By supporting sustainable entrepreneurial activities (green enterprises), the project creates new income opportunities for marginalised groups (women, youth) through local value creation. To consolidate these efforts, the project is working with civil society organisations to prioritise climate-resilient agricultural and economic development in local development plans and policy strategies, and to build relevant administrative and institutional capacity. The project follows a multi-stakeholder approach, collaborating with long-standing (RRN) and new (MIC, FTG) national partner organisations, CBOs, local governments and other civil society actors.
