Anticipatory Flood Response in Eastern Nepal (EAST)

The main objective of this project is to provide life multi-purpose cash assistance, water, sanitation and hygiene assistance, and child protection assistance to vulnerable communities in Saptari in anticipation of monsoon flooding. This UNICEF project provides cash transfers to vulnerable households; distributes critical WASH supplies like water purification tablets; installs emergency toilets; and deploys child protection social workers. The multi-purpose cash component of the project provides life-saving assistance to 9,126 people, including 2,699 women, 2,594 men and 3,833 children, and 189 persons with disabilities. The child protection component provides life-saving assistance to 8,409 people, including 1,507 women, 1,484 men and 5,418 children. The water, sanitation and hygiene component provides life-saving assistance to 4,400 people, including 1,301 women, 1,250 men and 1,849 children.
