Food Aid in Nepal - WFP 2008
Despite a ceasefire and Comprehensive Peace Agreement signed in 2006, there has been recent volatility in several regions of Nepal. This instability has hindered the population's access to basic services, including food. An estimated 42 out of 75 districts throughout the country are currently experiencing food shortages. CIDA's contribution is used to help the World Food Programme provide emergency food assistance to conflict-affected populations. Special emphasis is given to targeting women, children, ethnic minorities and vulnerable indigenous groups. This operation is expected to meet the food aid needs of an estimated 1.3 million beneficiaries.
