KFIT Action Plans for University Networks and Mobility in Asia-Pacific

Following the devastating impacts of COVID-19, countries throughout Asia and the Pacific are transforming their higher education systems to enhance regional mobility and improve employability. There are growing challenges among Member States in the region to assess and fairly recognize international qualifications and new micro-credentials from short-term programs. To facilitate cross-border mobility, action plans must strengthen commitment and networks to support students and professionals throughout Asia and the Pacific. Based on the achievements of the project “Regional Quality Tools to Facilitate the Cross-border Mobility of Students” (2019-2023), UNESCO Bangkok proposes to develop joint action plans to facilitate mobility and cross-border recognition of qualifications for students and professionals in the Asia-Pacific region. As Secretariat of the Asia-Pacific Network of National Information Centres (APNNIC) under the Tokyo Convention, UNESCO Bangkok is a platform for evidence-based policy development and action planning to ensure fair and transparent recognition of qualifications and increased learner and professional mobility. The aim of this project is to develop national action plans to increase student and faulty mobility and facilitate the recognition of qualifications in Asia and the Pacific. Strong and inclusive university networks are key enablers for mobility, educational innovation, and regional integration in Asia-Pacific. Increasing regional mobility of young scholars and enhancing inter-university networks will multiply strategic collaborations and strengthen integration for sustainable growth.
